Plate 2 from the portfolio ‘Canto Pisan’. Text by Ezra Pound illustrated by Zao Wou-Ki in 1972 (the complete portfolio comprising eight numbered aquatints with etching in colours). The Cantos Pisans is the most famous work by the American poet Ezra Pound. This long epic poem was first published in 1948. Zao Wou-Ki illustrated the French translation of one of the Cantos Pisans in the year of Ezra Pound's death. The painter dedicated this publication to the memory of his second wife, May.
