A magnificent piece. The crown wheel is bent. Three of the four glass panels are cracked. The seconds hand is missing. The clock must have suffered from a fall as both the front and back door are misaligned. The movement is currently fully wound and not running. The chain will need to be re-fastened to the winding barrel. The gilding to the case is original, however worn overall. The cartouche numerals to the dial have some discoloration..This lot is accompanied by a key.

A very rare, and probably unique example. It is quite possibly Charles Fasoldt's vision of a marine timepiece. The most fabulous aspect of this piece is that given the size of the movement, one can easily see the details of Fasoldt's very special escapement. It is a fascinating example for any lover of American horology..The movement is running and there is pitting to the bridges and plates. The case appears to be original, as does the dial. It is interesting to compare the engraving of the dial on the present example to that on the dial on lot 1..W/KEY

C. Five-body, bassine et filets, both covers engine-turned, gold hinged cuvette. D. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, subsidiary sunk seconds. Blued steel hands. M. 44.5 mm (19 3/4'''), gilt brass, parallel bridge caliber, Fasoldt patented unidirectional double wheel lever-chronometer escapement with locking on the large wheel and impulse from the smaller one, large pierced single roller, strong draw on both locking pallets, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel duo-in-uno (a combination of helical and flat balance spring controlled by Fasoldt micrometric regulator, going train (80/10, 75/10, 80/10, 15/8) calculated for 18,000 beats/hour.Signed on the movement, which is also engraved Patent. Feb 1, 1859 and Patent applied for.Diam. 55 mm.
