Il s'agit la non seulement de la configuration la plus rare sous la référence 1665, mais également l'une des seules connues à ce jour avec tous les livrets de bord des plongeurs de la Comex à cette époque. Dans ces carnets chaque plongée y est recensée, et toutes les informations importantes sont répertoriées, témoignage inestimable de l'importance de la montre de plongée dans des conditions extrêmes. Si la maison Rolex est connue pour ses montres sportives depuis plus d'un demi-siècle, l'histoire de la marque est également associée à l'univers aquatique. En 1926, une étape majeure est franchie avec la création de la première montre étanche à l'eau et à la poussière. Baptisée Oyster (huître en anglais), cette montre au boîtier aussi hermétique qu'un coffre-fort garantit une protection optimale du mouvement. Une Rolex Oyster, en 1927, traverse la Manche arrimée au poignet d'une jeune nageuse anglaise, Mercedes Gleitze. La traversée durera 10 heures et la montre sortira de l'eau en parfait état de marche. Cette aventure s'est perpétuée à travers les époques et la Comex 1665 est sans doute le plus bel accomplissement de la marque de 1960 jusqu'au début des années 1980. Rolex aura marqué de son empreinte des générations de plongeurs de l'extrême aux quatre coins du monde, une véritable icône pour les explorateurs en tout genre. Notre montre est le graal pour un amateur ou collectionneur de montre de plongée, il pourra non seulement avoir la plus rare de toutes les Comex mais également consulter les écrits si précieux de ces carnets de bords, au travers de tous ces exploits souvent ignorés du grand public. Au-delà du caractère historique, cette montre excelle aussi en matière de technologie horlogère avec sa valve à hélium.
