S is for Saddle Stitch
Experts sometimes use vocabulary which can seem obscure to novices. In order to be precise and to be understood at the same time, Collector Square explains the meaning of a useful word to luxury object aficionados every month.
The seams of luxury handbags are largely represented by the saddle stitch. This stitch should be made by hand, with two needles on each end of the same thread. One thread passes over and one under in an alternating pattern. In this way, the threads cross over in the centre of the seam. This is the most solid point known. Hermès has made this its signature.
