Birthday, graduation, wedding, promotion... There is no perfect excuse to treat yourself to your first beautiful watch. Do not make a mistake in your selection on D-day. Clotilde Rafine-Ricard, Head of the Watches department at Collector Square presents to you the three vital tips and her very favorite watches.

1. You will choose a classic, that won't go out of fashion

If you’re buying a beautiful watch you are supposed to like it today, tomorrow, even in thirty years from now. Its better to focus on a classical model, one which you wouldn't tire of, where the brand or a trained watchmaker can service and repair it in a long term basis.

2. You will limit yourself to reasonable dimensions

Yesterday, massive watches of 42 mm were fashionable… The tendency today comes back to the models where the diameters are fixed between 36 and 39 mm. It has been 30 years where it has been settled around 34 mm… Avoid going into the extremes where you can have a watch that won’t go out of fashion.

3. You wouldn’t have to bother on the mechanics

For amateurs that are like experts, a beautiful watch is a mechanical watch and from Switzerland. Mechanical watches are divided into two sub-categories; watches with manual winding, where the average is raised every other day by turning the crown and automatic watches, which goes back on its own, thanks to the energy transmitted by your mechanical movements.
